Long time no see! Today I will be catching you up on what’s been going on with me for the last 6 months or so.
We moved back to Tokyo!
Last September, Seiya and I moved back to Tokyo after having lived in Kanagawa for about 2 years. The reason for our move was due to a change in Seiya’s job.
As a result of moving, my work situation changed quite a bit as well. I could no longer teach most of the people I had been teaching in Kanagawa due to the change in location, so I had to find new students. Over the months, slowly, but surely, I built up my clientele in Tokyo. At the same time, I had been doing remote work part-time for a company in Tokyo.
But come 2020, everything changed.
Tokyo 2020 is not what any of us had hoped
At the start of the year, work seemed to be picking up. I was getting new clients and planning new events. But over the next several weeks, it became increasingly clear that I wouldn’t be able to continue working outside the home due to the coronavirus becoming a global pandemic.
Luckily, I did have my remote work to fall back on. I asked my company if I could increase my workload and to my great relief I was able to get more hours, securing a somewhat stable income. Seiya’s company has also been generous about allowing their employees to work from home, so we have both been staying home as much as possible.
We are counting our blessings
Although many things have not gone as I had hoped they would at the start of this year, we really have to count our blessings. We are so lucky to have each other and our health, and to be able to stay home and still make a living.
Although I worry about both our families, so far everyone has been able to stay healthy. My parents are on lockdown in California, and Seiya’s parents are keeping a safe distance from crowds living in rural Aomori. His hometown has yet to confirm any cases of the virus, and I’m hoping that this will be one of the times where the low population and lack of entertainment in the area will allow them to escape the danger of this virus.
On a side note, we’re vegans now!
We have actually been aspiring vegans since around October of last year, although we have made a few exceptions such as when we went to Aomori for the New Year. There are several reasons we have been making this transition, which I won’t get into now because it isn’t easy to explain in a few words. I’m thinking about writing a separate post devoted to this topic at a later date!
We have actually really enjoyed our new lifestyle. It has given me a real challenge as far as expanding my cooking repertoire goes. Now that we have gotten used to it, I think it’s safe to say we are alright with not going back to eating animal products.
I would like to post some of my favorite vegan recipes at some point, too! It’s amazing what you can make even without using any animal products.
Health is Everything
Seiya and I have always been pretty health-conscious, but we are becoming more and more so all the time. In addition to transitioning to a vegan diet, we have also been maintaining a regular exercise routine since we moved to Tokyo.
Until recently, we were members of JoyFit 24-hour gym. We made an effort to go to the gym several times a week and we were feeling pretty good about it. Of course, due to the coronavirus outbreak, we have stopped going to the gym. But that doesn’t mean our workouts have to stop!
Exercise, diet, sleep, and hydration are all very important for staying healthy. And now, more than ever, we are realizing just how important staying healthy is.
This has been an update of the last 6 months or so of our lives! I am hoping to start writing more frequently, and I have several things I would like to share in the near future including more information about our decision to go vegan and maybe some of my favorite recipes too! Until then, stay safe everybody!
