It’s been about 2 months now since I got my road bike and although I have tried to be extremely careful not to damage it, it already has somehow obtained several scratches.
So, in order to prevent future scratches as much as possible, I decided to make a cover for the frame of my bike.
I also started keeping my bike indoors recently due to complaints from my landlord about keeping it outside my front door. I bought this new rack which can hold 2 bicycles (mine and my husband’s).
The material I used was a Japanese cloth (tenugui) that I got 2 years ago at a festival in Enoshima. I didn’t really measure anything. I just eyeballed it and folded it to the size that seemed right. It’s kind of a miracle it worked, actually!
After sewing up all the edges, I sewed on some velcro that I got at the 100 yen shop. I realized halfway through that I made it a little bit too small so I adjusted the position of the velcro so that it would close around the frame.
I’m not very skilled at sewing by hand, so it took me a good 2-3 hours to make it. I was pretty tired, but satisfied in the end.
On a side note, my hair is getting so long! I haven’t been to a hair salon in 6 months now so my bangs have grown out.
Making things by hand is challenging but fun! Altogether, it only cost me 200 yen (about 2 dollars) to make it and I feel like my sewing skills have improved a bit! Maybe I’ll try making another one sometime using a different pattern.
So, what do you think? Do you like this idea? Would you try making one of these for your road bike or would you rather buy one? Let me know in the comments!
