A few weeks ago I discovered a new vegan cafe in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo. The shop has a very open feel to it with tables spaced far apart and a high ceiling. They also offer take-out if you would like to enjoy your lunch at home.

When we got there, most of the seats were open. We chose the sofa seat in the middle of the cafe. After looking over the menu, we decided to order a chai latte, Veggie Doria, and Grains Bowl.

Everything was delicious! We were impressed with both the taste and the presentation of the food. After lunch, we were tempted to try their dessert. So, we ordered their famous chocolate parfait! It was absolutely heavenly. The ice cream is made of soy and coconut and the cream is made of sake kasu, a byproduct of Japanese sake production which has many health properties.

Honestly, it was the best parfait (vegan or otherwise) that I have ever had! The size was rather large, so I recommend sharing it with your partner or if you are going alone maybe skipping lunch. We were both very full after eating lunch and then this!

On the basement floor, they have a wide selection of Shiro brand Vegan cosmetics and aroma. Seeing as I am approaching 30, I had been wanting to start a proper skin care routine, so I decided to buy their “Kombu” (seaweed) skin care line. I have been using it for a few weeks now and I really like it!

I was very pleased with my experience at Shiro cafe. I will definitely be going again! If you get a chance to go, I highly recommend it. Bring your non-vegan friends too! They will be very impressed when you tell them that there are no animal products in the dish they eat! 😉
